If there is one whisky that is known throughout Asia pacific as a top quality scotch whisky then it really need to be the Chivas whisky. This premium whisky is generated by the Chivas borthers which in return is owned and operated by Pernod Ricard. Chivas whisky currently is the industry innovator in whiskies aged 12 years or more. Believe it or not the sales have been slowly improving from the year 2002 to 2011.

Chivas Regal Scotch whisky was basically first generated in the year 1801 in Aberdeen, Scotland at the Strathisla Distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland.

There are primarily three main whiskies out of this family and they are Chivas Regal 12 year old, Chivas Regal 18 year old and Chivas Regal 25 year old. The 12 year old blended with whisky provides a taste that reminds you about honey and ripe apples while on the palate it seems round and creamy. There are even ideas of hazelnut and butterscotch in the taste. The 18 year old blended with whisky is matured for at least 18 years before it is bottled and tastes of orange and chocolates. On the nose it seems citrus, spices and fruits. Whereas on the palate you get spicy taste. Chivas Regal 25 year old is matured for 25 years or longer and tastes of apricot and peach.

There is very long history behind this excellent drink. It had been started out by the Chivas brothers in the year 1801. They started a retail store that offered spices, Caribbean rum, coffee, and various other food stuff to potential clientele. In the year 1842 after the visit of Queen Victoria to Scotland they were asked to supply goods to the royal family at Balmoral Castle. And in the year 1843 they were granted the sought after royal warrant to produce products to the Queen.

As their track record grew, buyers often prosperous and affluent, would require them to produce smooth whisky. And so, in the year 1850 James Chivas started to combine whiskies to create smooth whisky that would satisfy his affluent clients taste. He created a proprietary brand Chivas Brothers and produced the first mixed with scotch whisky “Royal Glen Dee. This had been immediately pursued by another whisky the “Royal Strathythan”.

By the early 1900s the economy in the U.S was basically booming and to capture this market the Chivas brothers chose to make an aged whisky and it was given the name Chivas Regal. In the year 1909 Chivas Regal 25 year old was presented and premium brand and immediately grabbed the imagination of the Americans. They continued to appreciate excellent success till prohibition put a spoke in the wheel in 1920.

Seagrams bought the Chivas Regal brand in the year 1949 and put into use their massive marketing and sales network to further present this high quality whisky. The moment the prohibition was lifted and the Second World War was over Chivas presented their 12 year old. By now Chivas Regal had turned out to be incredibly popular and had a large loyal customer base. Among its extremely famous consumers was basically the legendary Frank Sinatra.

The moment the 20th century ended they already had 18 year old and 25 year old added to their list. Due to the split up of the Seagrams Group, Chivas was basically purchased by Pernod Ricard in the year 2000 and it continues to be with them to this day.

Chivas whisky seems to have constantly performed perfectly and provides received a number of awards and medals at spirits competitions. For the San Francisco World spirit competition it won the gold medal in the year 2006 and 2008.
